An Insight Statement Should Explain a Pattern in the Research

A quote, a theme and an insight are different research outputs. An insight statement should make a supported interpretation clearer rather than merely restate a participant's words.

IDEO.org's insight-statement method turns synthesised research learning into concise statements that guide further design work. IDEO.org Design Kit — Create Insight Statements.

Keep the evidence reachable

For a character-gift project, connect the statement to the observations behind it. Identify conflicting examples and the limits of the research. A persuasive sentence should not hide a thin evidence base.

Leave room for solutions

An insight need not prescribe a particular accessory or shape. Use it to open a focused design question. This preserves alternatives and makes it easier to distinguish a genuine research finding from a preferred concept disguised as an insight.
