Why Seam Placement Belongs in a Plush Design Review

Seam placement affects how a plush character's outline, colour panels and face come together. Include seams in the sample review instead of judging only the artwork. A line that is invisible in a drawing may become a visible join on a three-dimensional body.

Mark the uninterrupted areas

Identify any face, logo or pattern that should read as one continuous area. For a Dragon Fruit Slice, a buyer may care particularly about the relationship between the white centre and pink edge. Use that kind of specific observation rather than asking for “no visible seams” across the entire product.

The supplier should explain the proposed construction. A buyer's marked drawing communicates priorities; it does not replace pattern-making decisions.

Look beyond the front photo

A front view can conceal a seam running down the side or back. Review the full outline and ask for close-ups where colour panels meet. If a seam passes near an eye or through a graphic, check whether the finished expression or image remains clear after filling.

Also compare left and right sides. A difference may be intentional in the character design, so ask before treating it as an error.

Record the accepted construction

Once a seam arrangement is accepted, retain photographs of it with the sample reference. If the shape is revised later, revisit the joins. A change in body width or panel layout can alter more than the silhouette visible from the front.

Can seam positions be specified from artwork alone?

They can be discussed, but the assembled sample is the better basis for approval. Request a construction explanation where the seam affects an important design feature.

Include those priorities in a custom plush brief so the first sample review has a clear starting point.
