Use distinct record types
For a character study, keep direct statements, observed actions and interpretations recognisable. A paraphrase should not later appear in quotation marks as though it were the participant's exact words.
Keep the source reachable
Connect the shared notes to the appropriate research record under the agreed privacy arrangements. The purpose is a usable evidence base for synthesis, not a longer collection of untraceable impressions. Mark missing context rather than completing it from memory.
