Provenance information can help explain a digital asset's history. It should not be treated as a complete legal permission document for using the character it depicts.
C2PA describes Content Credentials as providing verifiable provenance information about digital content. C2PA — Content Credentials Explainer (version 2.2).
Read what is asserted
For an artwork handoff, identify the information actually included and the relevant signer or implementation. Do not infer missing permissions merely because a credential indicator is present.

Preserve the other records
Keep agreements and source information alongside the technical provenance. An asset's recorded history and its usable commercial rights answer different questions. A credential check can support the review without establishing unrestricted ownership or permission for every proposed use.
