Warp and Weft Give a Woven Panel a Directional Reference — concept overview: Fabric length, Fabric width, Panel orientation.

Warp and Weft Give a Woven Panel a Directional Reference

A panel drawing needs a reference to the actual fabric direction. The outline alone does not communicate how the piece should be oriented on a woven material.

CottonWorks identifies warp yarns along fabric length and weft yarns across its width. CottonWorks — Weaving Basics.

Mark the relevant reference

For a soft-product panel, show the intended relationship between the pattern and material direction. Keep that information distinct from the appearance of a printed motif.

Review the actual material

Directional behaviour depends on the finished fabric and construction, not the vocabulary alone. Preserve the orientation used in the evaluated sample. A later layout change should be reviewed against the requirements it could affect rather than treated as a purely geometric rearrangement.
