When thread performance changes, the spool's history is a useful part of the investigation. Storage is easier to overlook than machine settings because it happens away from the sewing operation.
Coats' storage guidance discusses environmental conditions and protection of sewing thread during storage. Coats — Thread Storage.
Describe the actual environment
Record where the material was held and whether packaging was damaged or exposure was unusual. Do not copy a temperature or humidity target from an unrelated product. Use the applicable supplier guidance for the thread actually purchased.

Preserve an identifiable comparison
Keep affected stock separate from a known reference while the issue is investigated. A comparison is useful only when the thread identity and storage histories can be distinguished. Mixing opened spools can erase the evidence before a trial starts.
Storage records do not prove why a seam failed. They make the investigation more complete and help decide whether the next step belongs with material handling, the supplier or the sewing process.
