A recorded hash can help determine whether two files contain the same bytes under the chosen method. That technical comparison does not establish who owns the creative work.
NIST's Secure Hash Standard describes algorithms that produce message digests from data. NIST — Secure Hash Standard.
Preserve the context
For an artwork handoff, connect the digest to the actual file and relevant delivery record. A hash without an identifiable source file provides little practical help to the next reviewer.

Keep rights evidence separate
Retain agreements and authorship information through the appropriate process. A matching digest supports a version or integrity check; it should not be presented as a copyright registration, signature of ownership or unrestricted permission to manufacture the depicted character.
