A recycled-polyester description becomes clearer when the processing route is identified. The general material name does not explain every step between the recovered input and the new textile.
Textile Exchange distinguishes mechanical recycling from chemical recycling of PET. Textile Exchange — Recycled Polyester.
Keep the route identifiable
For a proposed character textile, ask what the supplier's claim actually covers and which product it describes. Avoid inferring a route from appearance or from an unrelated sustainability presentation.

Compare the actual material
The route is background for a sourcing decision, while the supplied material still needs the relevant specification and evaluation. Do not convert a process category into an unsupported claim of superior performance, unlimited recyclability or a particular environmental saving.
